Chia-Ching (Jackie) Wang

MD

Anal dysplasia specialist
Fan of action movies and Taiwanese street food

Dr. Chia-Ching Wang, who goes by Jackie, is an oncologist who treats anal cancer. She also provides cancer screenings with high-resolution anoscopy (an examination using an instrument that can be inserted into the anal canal).

Wang's work in research focuses on HIV oncology, particularly HPV-related cancers. (HIV-infected individuals may be at higher risk for developing HPV-related cancers due to their immunosuppression. She hopes to develop and implement prevention strategies, as well as test novel therapies that may improve outcomes for patients with these cancers.) She has also completed studies on lymphoma and Kaposi's sarcoma. She has special interests in superficially invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the anus and in post-treatment surveillance.

Wang received her medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She began a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, but after the first year, she decided to change her focus to HIV-related work. She subsequently completed a research fellowship at the Miriam Hospital, a teaching affiliate of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She then completed a residency in internal medicine at Brown University. After working for a year as a hospitalist (a physician dedicated to patient care in the hospital setting), she came to UCSF for a fellowship in hematology and oncology.

Wang is a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Medical Association.

Dr. Jackie Wang was incredibly kind and amazing at her work. In the past two times, I visited the center two different healthcare professionals did the test, and both times I felt very sick right after and for days after the test. This time with Dr. Wang, there were no side effects. I was able to go back to work and function as usual without any discomfort.

I wish the treatment (hfrecation) was completed as part of the same appointment. It is unfortunate that I have to wait a few months now because of lack of appointments for a 10 minute treatement.UCSF should not focus on more appointments that would lead to more claims, instead they should set guidelines to do treatement and evaluation as part of the same visit where possible.
