Winston Chiong

Dr. Winston Chiong is a neurologist who cares for adults with Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia (a group of rare conditions affecting certain lobes of the brain) and other cognitive disorders of aging.

Chiong leads the Decision Lab, whose research investigates how changes in the brain affect decision making in patients affected by disease and in those who are simply aging. The lab's work draws on wide-ranging fields, including clinical neurology, brain science, the social sciences and philosophy. He is also interested in ethical and policy implications for care of patients affected by changes in brain function.

Chiong earned his medical degree at UCSF, where he also completed a residency in neurology and a fellowship in behavioral neurology. He has a doctorate in philosophy from New York University. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in neuroscience at the University of California, Berkeley.

Chiong serves as a member of the UCSF Department of Neurology Diversity Committee; UCSF Medical Center Ethics Committee; Neuroethics Working Group of the National Institutes of Health BRAIN Initiative; and Ethics, Law and Humanities Committee of the American Academy of Neurology.
